Community Board 2 just sent out its SLA licensing schedule for the first half of next month and there are a lot of applications in our area, all of them scheduled for the first session. (Our comments in parenthesis and italics after each item.)

SLA Licensing 1
Tuesday, July 6  (6:30, St Anthony of Padua Church)

1a. Applications to the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) for Corporate Change to existing Restaurant Wine (RW), Tavern Wine (TW) or Full Liquor On-Premise (OP) Licenses:

  • Mulberry Street Bar, LLC, 176-½ Mulberry St. 10013 (OP) (Sidewalk Café) (Did they sell? This bar’s been around since 1908 and even Tony Soprano has been there!)

1e. Apps. to the SLA for New License for New Beer and Wine license (RW/TW):

  • Festive & Co. Holding, Inc. fka Entity to be Formed by Brenna Gilbert d/b/a Champers Social Club, 430 Broome St. 10013 (BW-Café) (DOT Open Restaurant Permit) (Festive & Co’s website makes it seem likely this might end up an event space. Update: according to Lora Tenenbaum, “the applicant is starting a business that will have a wine, beer, tidbit menu plus a space in the basement for small parties. There will be a retail section and she hopes most income from e-commerce.” )

1f. Apps. to the SLA for New License for Full Liquor On-Premise (OP) (Sidewalk Café)

  • 357 W. Broadway, LLC, d/b/a The Residence + Cavi-AIR Cafe, 357 W. Broadway 10012 (OP-Restaurant) (Patio or Deck) (Sidewalk Café) (The LLC listed has owned the building for 17 years, so this is very weird.)
  • Piacere Enterprises, LLC, 351 Broome St. 10013 (RW-Restaurant) (Upgrade to OP-Restaurant) (Sidewalk Café) (Odd for a wine bar that’s always full to now add full liquor, so I suspect they’re taking advantage of the all the outdoor joy and adding brunch.)
  • Entity to be Formed by James Wright d/b/a TBD, 59 Grand St. 10013 (OP-Restaurant) (Wright was the former general manager at the infamous Paul’s Casablanca in Hudson Square and is also behind the recently opened Orchard Room on the LES, in the old Max Fish space. CB3 initially denied them an OP so they went to the liquor board.)
  • Chobani Café, LLC, 152 Prince St. 10012 (OP-Café) (Sidewalk Café) (previously unlicensed location)
  • Cocktail King, Inc., 191 Grand St. 10013 (OP-Restaurant) (Incorporated in 2019, so rather a long time in development! This is where AvroKO Hospitality Group‘s Genuine Liquorette was.)
